FILM FESTIVAL UPDATE: South African HORRORFEST

I'm HELLA excited to announce that my Horror short "(spek.ter)" has been accepted to this years SOUTH AFRICAN HORRORFEST in Capetown!!! Click on the Banners above to be taken to their website and on the name to view their myspace page!!!

This marks my 9th festival to date and will be the last festival my short will be featured in this year!!!

"(spek.ter)" plays as part of their series of short film collections, known as the SHADOW REALM. The short films have been divided up into 3 feature length sections, and "(spek.ter)" appears in PART 1 on opening night: THURSDAY OCTOBER 30TH at 8:30pm! You can view the ENTIRE LINE-UP LISTINGS HERE!!!

Now, given that my short has full frontal nudity, I guess it's only fitting that the shorts and feature films will be showcased at THE LABIA THEATER!

The festival is run by Paul Blom & Sonja Ruppersberg, who both play in the Industrial Metal band TERMINATRIX!

This looks like a fun festival with some of the patrons dressing up in costumes!!!

Here's an interview with Paul & Sonja (and spectators) at the 2007 festivities!!! Click on the link!!!

Another short that is appearing at the festival is WRETCHED, which was written & produced by Heidi Martinuzzi and co-directed with Leslie Delano! Their short plays in PART 3 of the SHADOW REALM Shorts series on November 6th!!!

You can also check out the WRETCHED Trailer here!

Heidi (aka SuperHeidi on myspace) has her own Horror website and she also runs PRETTY/SCARY (a Horror site that is dedicated to Women filmmakers, journalists & artists, who want to make a positive difference in how women are often portrayed within the genre)

(spek.ter) at the ARIZONA UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL!!!

Who would've thought I would have another blog update so soon? Not me!

Well, in addition to this month's SHOCKFEST FILM FESTIVAL OF HOLLYWOOD (see previous blog), "(spek.ter)" also got accepted into the ARIZONA UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL in Tucson (click on their name to be taken to their myspace page and on the poster BELOW to be taken to their website).

"(spek.ter)" plays this coming SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18th at 11:40pm at THE SCREENING ROOM.

Horror Indie Scream Queen Tiffany Shepis is scheduled to be at the Festival on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17th at THE LOFT CINEMA...

...when her flick BONNIE & CLYDE VS. DRACULA plays.

(Most of my Horror "friends" know all about Tiffany (and know her personally), but those on my list who don't can click on her name to view her myspace page and click on her photos ABOVE to check out her website. Same with her flick - click on the name to view the myspace page and click on the poster to check out the flick's website.)

In unrelated news, I saw this awesome Swedish coming-of-age drama/vampire horror film last night at a Mill Valley Film Festival screening, titled LET THE RIGHT ONE IN.

If this film appears in your neck of the woods, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you see it - especially before the rumored remake comes to fruition. LET THE RIGHT ONE IN will appeal to both Horror and non-Horror film fans alike! On the dramatic side, it's very touching and melancholic. And on the horror side, its a cool tension-filled bloody ride! SEE IT!!!

Lastly, I'll leave you all with Samuel L. Jackson asking this ever-pertinent question:

So on the heals of my Horror short, "(spek.ter)" playing at the SHOCKERFEST in Modesto, California (see my previous blog), it will now play SHOCKFEST, a brand new festival that's making its debut in the City of (Death) Angels, aka Los Angeles on October 31st (Halloween) & November 1st (Dia De Los Muertos)!!! I will update this blog once I find out exactly what day my short will play.

Click on the logo banner above to be taken to their website.

Their mission statement reads:
"Los Angeles is a town that has seen it all. Hollywood has seen more than that. To get recognition in the movie capital of the world, you need to do more than just be different. You need to be SHOCKING. Get attention, push boundaries, cause a controversy, disturb someone, wake the audience up. No matter how you say it, if your film does it, The Shock Film Festival wants to display your masterpiece of mental mayhem on Hollywood Blvd."

From the looks of things, it appears that my short and all of the other selections will be getting the literal "grindhouse" treatment, as the flicks will be showing at the run down and now officially closed (but open for rental use) VINE THEATER on Hollywood Blvd.

(I gotta admit - I'm curious as to what kind of flick "Pornography of the Bicycle" is)

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Sage Stallone & Bob Murawski (of GRINDHOUSE RELEASING) showcased their then new print of Umberto Lenzi's at times campy & notoriously graphic cannibal horror flick MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY (aka CANNIBAL FEROX) at this theater back in the mid 90's - "bringing a bit of the (old) Time Square to Hollywood Blvd." to sort of paraphrase Bob (on the Laserdisc/DVD bonus extras)!

I'm told SHOCKFEST will also have burlesque dancers and bands playing as well!!!

My Horror Short (spek.ter) at SHOCKERFEST, Modesto & Misc!!!

Well, FINALLY I have some news to announce: "(spek.ter)" made it into it's 6th film festival -

SHOCKERFEST in Modesto, CA - which takes place on OCTOBER 3,4 & 5!

I'm not sure what day "(spek.ter)" plays on yet. Plus, I'm still checking to see if I can make it to the festival, since the organizers would like to schedule in a short Q & A session with each of the filmmakers in attendance after their films have shown.

SHOCKERFEST will be showing all of their films at the Galaxy 12 Theatre in Riverbank, CA (just a couple miles outside Modesto.)

Amongst other festivities, they're also having a Special Screening on Friday, October 3rd for their Midnight Madness of that classic post-apocalyptic flick THE ROAD WARRIOR (aka MAD MAX 2, back when Mel Gibson was REALLY cool!!!)

and on Saturday, October 4th this Aussie actor (Vernon Wells) from THE ROAD WARRIOR will make a personal appearance:

Also, my actress Serena Toxicat was recently featured in the European Fetish Magazine MARQUIS (Issue No. 44),

which the English language US Edition is now on bookstands now (I bought mine at Borders Books in my neck of the woods). Anyway, Serena was gracious enough to mention your's truly and "(spek.ter)" in her portion of the article.

The article, titled BIG IN AMERICA,was written by Amelia G of BLUE BLOOD.NET

I also wanna give a shout-out to Suicide Girl Model, Nixon Suicide

(who's also featured in the BIG IN AMERICA article under the name Nixon Sixx) for letting me know that the MARQUIS issue was now available stateside - that's also her on the far left in the article photo above (Sorry! I had to censor her goodies)!!!

Serena is also an author and she's promoting her semi-autobiographical book about a Goth band on the road, titled EVANGELINE AND THE DRAMA WHEEL

Which you can order a hard copy or download a copy at LULU.COM

Here's some shots of Serena at a couple of recent live performance book readings:

Lastly I want to thank my friends (Ben, Jag, Chris, Staci and John) for taking the time to read and critique my latest feature length Horror/Thiller screenplay as their schedules allowed (not at liberty to divulge the Title at this time)!!! I sincerely appreciate the feedback I've received so far.

Also, if anyone's interested, here's my Facebook link!

Until next time...I'm Out! Skatin' back to my 70's childhood!!!

Like Always, Thank You For Reading!!!
